LEGENDS AND HEROES HONOREE - DETROIT SUPERCROSS 2019

Originally from nearby Fenton, Michigan, Swink was a prolific mini-cycle racer in the ’80s. As a part of the Michigan Mafia, Swink was a force to be reckoned with during his amateur career with twelve top-ten and five class championships at Loretta Lynn’s including the highly competitive 125A Stock and 250A Stock classes in 1990 after which he began his professional career.

As a part of Mitch Payton’s Peak/Pro Circuit Honda in 1991, Swink would win seven main events and clinch the title. He would then prove his talent outdoors by winning the 125 class at the High Point National and go on to finish fourth overall in the series. 1992 would show a continuation of his dominance. This time as a member of Team Suzuki, Swink would win seven main events including both nights at the nearby Pontiac Supercross, not far from this Saturday night’s event. Swink was again the 125 East Coast Champion.

In 1993, Swink made a move to the 250 class but unfortunately never found the same championship success. Following his time at Suzuki, Swink was a part of the Honda of Troy racing team and later Moto-XXX. His last professional racing season was in 1997. During his seven-year professional career, Swink earned more than 100 top-10 overall finishes including thirteen victories.

Swink was 45 when he passed away at his home in Florida on May 17, 2018.
